my name is Thomas Glaser, Global Head of Technology Development Sheetfed at Siegwerk.
I am responsible for the development of offset printing inks and coating systems for the packaging and commercial sectors.
Here some of our developments in the UV segment, which are  including eg. low migration, iron-doped, LED and EB technologies and sustainable, recyclable UV-/LED- systems.

In my presentation "UV/LED printed fibre-based substrates and recycling - how does that fit together ?" i will talk about the actual recycling status, upcoming regulation changes, the existing recycling processes for fibre-based substrates and give you an answer whether UV or LED radiation curable inks are recyclable.

The future of UV mercury gas discharge lamps from a regulatory point of view

The use and trade of mercury is increasingly being restricted worldwide. The background to this is the negative impact on the environment and health if it is not used and disposed in a proper manner. In this respect there is uncertainty about the continued and future availability of mercury-containing UV gas discharge lamps and thus the question of security of investment for conventional UV systems. A recently renewed exemption of the European RoHS Directive, which now explicitly names mercury-containing UV lamps, applies until 2027. For which systems is this exemption important and which systems do not need this exemption at all? What will happen after 2027? What other regulations outside RoHS need to be considered? The presentation aims to clarify uncertainties on the topic and contribute to a more factual discussion. The VDMA and other industry associations are working together with the manufacturing companies to ensure the continued legally compliant availability and use of UV mercury gas discharge lamps.
